UFC 260 results: Prospect Miranda Maverick outpoints Gillian Robertson
Miranda Maverick continues to prove why she’s regarded as a bright prospect in the UFC women’s flyweight division.
The 23-year-old picked up her second UFC win when she outpointed Gillian Robertson to a unanimous decision at UFC 260. Maverick (9-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) won with scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.
The women’s flyweight bout was part of the UFC 260 main card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.
In the first round, Maverick controlled most of the action. She kept the center of the octagon and landed solid combinations on Robertson (9-6 MMA, 6-4 UFC) for the majority of the round. Maverick also scored two takedowns late in the round.
But in the second round, there was a clear momentum shift in favor of Robertson. The 25-year-old took down Maverick early and controlled her for more than four minutes. Maverick constantly was defending submissions and getting out of back control, but Robertson was relentless. Maverick landed a good combination at the end of the round and was able to get back on the feet for a few seconds before the bell
Maverick started hot in the third and landed a few heavy shots on Robertson. There was a takedown attempt from Robertson, but Maverick managed to defend and got on top for ground-and-pound. Robertson created scrambles and attempted to reverse position, but Maverick seemed to be a step ahead.
With the win, Maverick is now on a four-fight winning streak. She debuted with the UFC this past October and beat Liana Jojua with a doctor’s stoppage. Maverick previously fought in Invicta FC, where she picked up victories over notable names like Pearl Gonzalez and DeAnna Bennett.
Robertson is on a two-fight skid after a loss to Taila Santos in December. Prior to that, Robertson had two consecutive victories.
